Two great days were marked on Lean Applied's calendar for August 09. As on the 4th and 5th of August 2009 Lean Applied had successfully spearheaded a two days conference event - the 2nd Lean Six Sigma Summit for Malaysian Government Linked Company (GLC) . This year's summit was held at the Putrajaya International Conference Center. This event which is undoubtedly construed as a one of Lean Applied's major annual event has attracted delegates from all over Malaysia. Despite the current global economic uncertainties, the turnout for this year was good and had seen a rise as compared to the previous 1st Lean Six Sigma Summit 2008 held at Sunway Hotels & Resorts.

Lean Six Sigma Summit 2009 Approximately sixty participants from different categories of corporations had attended this year's summit. Â Among the corporations represented at this recent summit were SIRIM, MIDF, FELCRA, MIMOS, Steelcase (M) Sdn. Bhd., Pharmaniaga, Khazanah, UEM, POS, Toshiba, NTI, Johnson Controls Inc. (JCI), Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), Petronas Penapisan (Terengganu) Sdn. Bhd., Sime Darby Plantation, Samsung and Adabi respectively.

This summit was privileged to have knowledgeable and qualified speakers sharing their invaluable experiences from many different backgrounds for instance Telekom Malaysia, SIRIM, Petronas Penapisan (Melaka) Sdn. Bhd., Steelcase (M) Sdn. Bhd., Toshiba, JCI, MAHB, Samsung, SOAR Consulting Sdn. Bhd. and also one who was specially flown from the United States, a Master Black Belt and retired Quality Coach of Ford Corporation.

The first day of the summit started off with a registration session at the foyer. After everyone has found their comfortable seats, a warm welcoming address was delivered by the Director of Lean Applied - Mr. Shahril Goh. He thanked the speakers and delegates in advanced for attending the summit, conveyed the importance of participation in such an event an briefly explained the agenda for the summit. Next it was followed by a brief recital of prayer by Lean Applied's Master Black Belt and Consultant - Mr. Muhammad Zamree Yusof. A keynote address was later delivered by Mr. Larry Smith who had graciously shared some of his Six Sigma experiences with Ford Corporation. The keynote address complemented the theme for the summit which was 'Sustaining Organisation, Innovating Business & Accelerating Growth' Interestingly, one of his take home messages was " success depends upon the organisation's ability to unite and work toward a common goal ". Next, an arresting video montage which was put together by Lean Applied's team was presented and after a brief morning tea break the talks from various speakers were set in motion.

The first day talks were occupied with a variety of significant topics by different speakers focusing on matters such as 'the importance of changing of mindsets in continuous improvement efforts', 'ways to achieve accelerated growth', 'competitive edge through innovation' and others. The highlight for the day was a dinner and an acknowledgement award giving ceremony. Lean Six Sigma Summit 2009 Two different genre awards were given out as a token of appreciation by Lean Applied to its clients this year. The acknowledgment award for ‘Lean Six Sigma Initiation' was presented to FELCRA and Petronas Penapisan Terengganu Sdn Bhd (PPTSB) and the acknowledgement award of ‘Lean Six Sigma Sustainment' was awarded to SKF Malaysia. The diners were also entertained with live dancing performances by a renowned children group dancer. It was a heartwarming end to day one of the summit.

As for the second day of the summit, it was filled with more enlightening talks on survival during stormy economic weather and strategic management tips with Lean Six Sigma elements. Some slots were also allocated for Lean Six Sigma associated software workshops. Many of the delegates found the workshops on Minitab, Sigma XL and Stealth Tracker beneficial. On the whole, the summit had run smoothly and was also made lively by its Master of Ceremony Pn. Haliza Abd. Hamid.

In all the Lean Six Sigma Summit for GLC 2009 was a remarkable feat, many encouraging feedbacks had been received from esteemed delegates and Lean Applied would again like to extend its sincere thanks to everyone who had made the event a wonderful and rewarding reality. Insha Allah (God willing), another similar event will be held next year hence do look out for the next invitation to the next promising 2010 Lean Six Sigma summit.
